Company Description

Ewals Cargo Care is a fourth-generation family business. With 2400 employees in 17 countries, we are one of the European market leaders in the future-oriented logistics sector. Flat hierarchies, direct contacts, mutual support and a unique family culture characterize our way of working.

Ewals Logistics Control (ELC) is separate entity within Ewals Cargo Care, responsible for Control Tower solutions in the form of 4PL/3PL/3PL+. ELC executes, optimizes and performs continuous improvement projects in the area of transportation for customers in different industries on a European-wide scale.

ELC is responsible for Control Tower solutions and also managing the (group) RFQ (Request For Quotation) & Solutions Desk, which handles all multi-country RFQ’s for the whole Ewals Group.

Project Description

In consultancy projects and during the sales phase of a potential lead, ELC is often asked by customers to look at their current transport network (and supply chain) to analyze where the optimization and saving potential is residing. This is currently done (mostly) in excel by Logistics Engineers.

This Project is focused on this area of consultancy and sales where these kind of questions often are asked by customers. Based on the customer’s transport data we analyze which combinations and optimizations are possible in order to create more efficiency and potential savings.

The idea is to, based on this available data, to build a model/tool which can support the analysis of the commercial questions of customers (this tool should make it easier to change the model/network).

1) step is stand-alone (low hanging fruit).

  • Determination of the most logical and future proof parameters.
  • For ELC; develop a tool. Goal is extraction of low hanging fruit out of data.
  • Tool: on the basis of data sets, make a first step on optimization.

2) step is to combine the data of the customer with the data of the current customers within ELC’s network.

  • Models for which this tool can be used, among other things:
    • Milkrun
    • Round-trips
    • If possible cross dock locations

3) step is review if the tool could also be used operationally (small pilot/test).

Goals of the Project

Goal is to create a tool with which transport data can be directly transferred into smart and efficient combinations with the most optimal lead-time, lowest cost/co2 footprint etc. and combinations hereof (depending on the requirement of the customer).

Deliverables

  • Determination of the most logical and future proof parameters.
  • Development of an optimization Model (based on single or multiple parameters)
  • Develop a Tool with which simulations can done.
  • Execution of a pilot with ‘Proof of Concept’.
