 Company Description

As the beating heart and invisible backbone of global supply chains, we connect people with essential daily goods. We see it as our mission to make logistics chains smarter and more sustainable. That’s why you cannot buy pallets or IBCs (intermediate bulk containers) from us; instead, you share and reuse them—a practice known as pooling. In this way, we create a positive impact on businesses, the planet, and society.

    Project Description

    Project description:

This master’s thesis investigates the potential for entering devanning services within the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp-Bruges, Europe’s most significant logistics hubs. By analyzing the types of goods entering these ports and identifying companies currently offering logistic services, this study aims to develop a strategic framework for CHEP’s entry and expansion in the devanning market. Next to this, an increased market share in these areas can contribute to a more sustainable supply chain. Through pooling, resource use is optimized by reducing waste and enhancing logistics efficiencies, thus decreasing emissions.

    Goals of the project:

The primary goal of this master’s thesis is to develop a comprehensive understanding of devanning opportunities within the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp-Bruges. The research aims to identify how CHEP can effectively expand its services in this logistics market to drive both business growth and sustainable supply chain practices.

    Deliverables:

    Flow Mapping Report

A detailed report mapping import and export flows within the ports, specifying the types of goods, and if these goods are palletized or not. In that way identifying target goods for devanning services.

    Market Analysis Document

A comprehensive analysis of the port landscape, including a list of relevant players (manufacturers, logistics service providers, devanning companies) and their market roles.

    Stakeholder Insights Report

Findings from interviews or surveys with potential clients. Documenting their awareness of CHEP, their impressions, and potential interest in a devanning collaboration. This report will include identified contact persons and summarize clients’ views on pooling and its sustainability benefits.

    Strategic Recommendations

A final report that synthesizes market and client insights into actionable recommendations. This will outline steps for market entry, competitive differentiation, and sustainable growth strategies in devanning, including a plan for building client relationships and promoting the (environmental) benefits of pooling.

      Essential student knowledge

Expertise in data analysis and mapping, market research, basic financial analysis and communication.

Interest in supply chain, sustainability, and business strategy.
