Company Description
ORTEC is the world’s leading supplier of mathematical optimization software and advanced analytics with around 1,000 employees and offices in 13 countries around the globe. Over the years, we have optimized business processes at more than 1,200 leading companies, enabling us to make a significant contribution to a better world
Project Description
Within the consulting department of ORTEC, a tailor-made tactical S&OP tool is built for a customer. One of the functionalities is related to an optimization where the transport and throughput actions of the customer are optimized given certain requirements. To keep running times manageable, the model is a simplification of reality. In this project we would like to explore opportunities to improve the model to be more in line with the business of the customer given the current situation as upper bound for the running time of the model. Currently, an LP is solved using CPLEX, part of the research could be to investigate if heuristics should be used to solve the model
Goals of the Project
Together with ORTEC and the customer: research possible ways to improve the model such that it’s a better fit with the business of the customer (given manageable running times).
Deliverables
Recommendations for improvements of the model.
Deliverables
Knowledge about solving mathematical models, for example exact (LP/MIP) or using heuristics.
