Predictive servitization – providing smart services based on big data – holds great promise. The Servitization Platform, an initiative of the European Supply Chain Forum and Link Magazine, aims to drive the topic forward for the manufacturing industry. In November, the first live meeting in two years was at machine builder VMI in Epe. Services are a growing part of the portfolio there, but big data still presents challenges. ‘If there’s a cleverness in the machine to make it perform better, customers love it. If that gizmo is out there, they find that scary.’
