Supported Research Projects
ESCF promotes the application of world-class research into supply chain and operations management phenomena to opportunity areas in member companies. We Facilitate joint projects. A significant percentage of membership fees is devoted on research,
encourage innovation and provide a competitive advantage to members’. The expertise gained reflects in discussions and in organised events.
Below an overview of research projects supported by ESCF. In addition to the researchers mentioned, various MSc, Bachelor and PhD students from TU/e are actively involved in the projects.
Project Title |
Short Description |
| AI Planner of the Future 2021-2026 |
The AI (Artificial Intelligence) PLANNER OF THE FUTURE ambitious research program focuses on the increasing intertwining of technology and human aspects in the context of AI planning for supply chains and logistics. |
| CollChain July 2024-June 2029 |
The innovative CollChain project is a collaboration between ASML, Thermo Fisher Scientific and TU/e, focuses on optimizing high-tech supply chains. The goal is to create a faster and more efficient value chain for all supply chain partners. Remco Dijkman, Néomie Raassens, TU/e |
| NEON (New Energy Outreach for the Netherlands) May 2021-October 2026 |
NEON is a multidisciplinary research program addressing three interrelated societal challenges: climate action, renewable energy, and smart & sustainable transport. Tom van Woensel, TU/e |
| LINCIT (Transitioning to a Circular Business Ecosystem) November 2022-June 2026 |
The ESCF Circular program LINCIT aims to guide the involved companies to embrace a circular business ecosystem with the ambition to (1) increase their circularity level to at least 20% and (2) reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 49% in 2030, in line with national policy. Alex Alblas, Zümbül Atan, Christina Imdahl, and Neomie Raassens, TU/e |
| AI4ROAD (Ai for Road Transportation) June 2023-2027 |
Developing advanced planning solutions by integrating traditional operations research methods with artificial intelligence techniques. We collaborate with Van der Wal to implement full-truckload transportation research in practice. Check the AI4ROAD webpage. Albert Schrotenboer, TU/e |
| CAMS (Modular Prefabricated Construction) September 2023-December 2026 |
The ESCF Circular CAMS program is a circular asset management system for closed-loop supply and logistics chains. Claudia Fecarotti, Ivo Adan, TU/e |
| SYNERCIZE (SYnchromodal Transport NEtworks for a Construction Industry towards Zero Emissions) January 2025-December 2027 |
SYNERCIZE Layla van der Heide-Martin, TU/e |
| HOPE (Human-Centered Optimiziation for Supply Chain Excellence) July 2024-February 2029 |
HOPE, an applied research project that studies and improves human-algorithm collaboration to unlock the potential of automated supply chain decision making based on optimization and artificial intelligence (AI). Willem van Jaarsveld, TU/e |
| EnerLogiX (Integrated Energy and Logistics Planning for Electric Trucking) July 2024-December 2028 |
The EnerLogiX project focuses on validating smart (local) energy solutions in combination with logistics planning solutions. The project will develop publicly available tools to accelerate the transition to electric freight transport and reduce CO2 emissions. Albert Schrotenboer, TU/e |

| Postdoc Kees Maton |
This is a study collaborating with NXP in the field of group decision-making, focusing in particular on ‘Demand Review Meetings’ (interdisciplinary meetings attended by representatives from sales, business, product development and demand planning, in which machine learning demand forecasts are evaluated as a group). The network research data from these meetings is linked to the decisions actually taken. Elwira Halgas (Postdoc), Anna-Sophie Ulfert and Kees Maton, TU/e |
