Improving integrated supply and production planning capabilities
In the high-tech world the supply chains have to deal with the complexity of the products themselves, long lead times of components, the speed with which research and development of new products require adaptations to supply chain relations, and the customer product configuration process that may span months and affects timing and specification of the products to be delivered.
These characteristics bring some key challenges that the ESCF High Tech Community wants to address. These challenges include: handling the complexity of the supply chain; reducing planning nervousness; planning under uncertainty and dynamicity; and handling disruptive events. We are also looking to incorporate circularity and lifecycle management into the supply chain.
The High Tech Community aspires to develop the concepts and tools that allow High Tech Supply Chains to meet the challenges of a highly complex and volatile world over the coming five years.
To that end, we do road mapping sessions, during which we together
identify the challenges that you want to address in the coming five years. Subsequently, we define projects together, on which you are involved from the practical side and we place an academic to support you from the theoretical side.

Some of the challenges that we are currently addressing, include:
• Real-time information visibility
• Real-time planning
• Integrated planning over horizons
• Collaborative planning with partners
• Lifecycle and configuration management
• Circularity in supply chains
• Resilience of supply chains
Key techniques that we consider for solving these challenges are:
• Forecasting and prediction with statistics and machine learning.
• Integrated planning with classical techniques and Artificial Intelligence.
• Data quality improvement for planning and analysis, including the use of advanced technology, such as knowledge graphs.
• Production and supply chain process analysis.
• Improving production logistics, including the use of novel technologies, such as AGVs.
