 The Fresh Connection Game

On November 25th of 2014, the Student Supply Chain Forum and Industria organized the “Fresh Connection Game”. This activity was presented in collaboration with consultancy firm Involvation. The event was attended by Master IE students, post master-LMS trainees, and PhD students. In addition supply chain professionals from various companies participated. In total 50 enthusiastic participants competed in 12 mixed teams to become the best new board for Fresh Connection.

Each team was challenged to turn the company’s fortunes around by optimizing the supply chain and increasing efficiency. This involved aspects related to sales, procurement, supply chain management and warehousing. All activities needed to be monitored and teams had to respond to developments in the company. By making the proper decisions, the ROI of the company could be improved.

In total, three rounds of about one hour were played, guided by explanations and tips from Egge Haak, creator of the already world-wide popular game. The winning team recognized the importance of having a clear strategy for the company and proper decision making in the team. The activity was hosted by dr. Karel van Donselaar.
This evening allowed participants to obtain valuable insights into the dynamics of a complex company and supply chain challenges in a fun environment and to work together in teams of students and professionals. In the words of one participant: “cross-functional collaboration of students and industry was effective and significant in the decision-making process as both parties brought different insights to the table”. The evening ended announcing the winners and having a social drink in the student’s bar The Villa.
