Masterclass Outcome Economy

Many companies are focused on developing the nature and increasing the quality of their products and services from an internal point of view: company-owned criteria determine whether something is good or bad. In doing so, they may ignore what their customers think important for their success – both in business-to-business and business-to-consumer settings. Ignoring customers has brought down renowned firms in the past. The concept of the outcome economy changes this view by focusing on the value that products or services bring to the success of a customer in the market of that customer: their outcome. In other words: it is not you who should be happy about what you deliver in your context, but your products or services should make your customer happy in its own context. How happy your customer is with what you deliver should be measurable – to improve your own business processes and possibly even to determine how much your customer should pay you. To measure customer success, we need to deal with data – possibly big data – in business control loops.
In this masterclass, we present the concept of the outcome economy (as propagated in the consultancy world) and extend it with a supply-chain-level control model to engineer the concept in the context of your company (as propagated by ESCF). We pay special attention to the role of (big) data in this control model. The intended audience for the masterclass consists of business model designers, supply chain managers, business-oriented data scientists and other business professionals who want to think beyond traditional business settings.
